Publisher: Red Adept Publishing
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Three years ago, Rikki Albemarle watched her best friend die at the hands of a supernatural evil. Certain she was slated to be the next victim, Rikki fled her small Smoky Mountain hometown, vowing to never come back. Plagued by nightmares and knowing she’s the only one who believes Mina’s death was no accident, Rikki returns with hopes of finding answers and holding the killer accountable.
Rikki is convinced the key to unlocking the secret of Mina’s death lies with Owen Amir, the alluring young army vet who once claimed her heart. But the deeper Rikki digs into Owen’s past, the more she’s torn between the urgings of her heart and her memories of him on the night Mina died.
After falling further into the rabbit hole, Rikki lands at the feet of an ancient and powerful evil determined to finish what it started years before. To survive, she’ll have to make a decision: believe Owen is the monster she always feared he might be or trust him enough to stay and fight for a second chance at love.

REVIEW
After reading The Norse Chronicles trilogy, I had high expectations for author Karissa Laurel and she not only met them but exceeded them.
This book was the answer to all of my angsty romantic dreams.
Rikki, the heroine of the story, is a young woman with intimacy problems after the death of her father and dreams of becoming a nurse, she works every hour possible to make this dream come true and not to let her past get in the way of her future. She’s very easy to sympathise with, trying to keep people at arm’s length and focusing on the things that she can control rather than the things she can’t.
Her master plan is messed up when Owen; sexy, mysterious and probably kind to small animals, Owen, comes on the scene. They’re both instantly smitten but there are many obstacles to overcome before they can decide whether or not they have a future together. Hence all the delicious angst.
This book would have been great with just that storyline but Laurel had to go and ramp it up another notch and make it perfect by adding mythology and a paranormal element. It’s essential to the storyline, but it doesn’t take up the entire plot – which is something I found really enjoyable. She writes about a mythology that I’m not overly familiar with either, which makes it all the more fascinating.
Laurel’s writing style is simply beautiful, every single word she writes has earnt its right to be there and apparently exists just to make me happy.
GO FORTH AND READ THIS BOOK.
